Nottingham Business School has the resources and business connections to make things happen.

Thorsten Chmura

Professor of Experimental and Behavioural Economics at Nottingham Business School

I hugely value the freedom I have to get on with my work here.

NOTTINGHAM BUSINESS SCHOOL IS VERY COLLEGIATE AND OPEN-MINDED.

It brings people together. It’s unlike any other universities, here or overseas, that I’ve experienced.

I have one PHD in Physics and another in Economics. I studied in Germany, then I lived and worked in Shanghai for four years before moving to Ningbo, another Chinese university. I moved back to Germany to become a full-time Professor at the University of Munich, then to the University of Nottingham, and now I’m here at Nottingham Business School. It’s been quite a journey and, finally, I’ve found a place that gives me the freedom, structure and resources I need.

TELL US OF A FUTURE YOU’D LIKE TO CREATE AND WE’LL GIVE YOU THE RESOURCES TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.

I DO BEHAVIOURAL ECONOMICS.

I look at decision-making and why people behave rationally or not. For me it is important to understand problems in the real world… and there are a lot of problems.

SOME OF THE RESEARCH I DO CAN BE COSTLY.

Nottingham Business School has the resources and business connections to make things happen. And those connections really matter because it’s vital that I work with the business leaders, practitioners and government stakeholders who make the big decisions.

I hugely value the freedom I have to get on with my work here.
