It’s a simple equation. Freedom plus clarity of purpose equals endless possibility.

Professor of Information and Learning at Nottingham Business School

This is a place that sees the bigger picture.

OVER THE 28 YEARS I HAVE BEEN HERE I HAVE SEEN RESEARCH EVOLVE FROM BEING A PERIPHERAL ACTIVITY TO WHERE IT IS TODAY – A FUNDAMENTAL AND CRITICAL PART OF WHAT WE DO.

Through that time I’ve developed and flourished by having the freedom to explore and play with the obscure, the theoretical, the random and the abstractly conceptual. The freedom to go off-piste, over the horizon and across challenging terrain in order to investigate new and interesting paths and connections. But always with the defining proviso that my research has a point, a purpose, and is focused on solving real-world business problems.

TELL US OF A FUTURE YOU’D LIKE TO CREATE AND WE’LL GIVE YOU THE RESOURCES TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.

MY GOAL HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO DISCOVER HIGHER KNOWLEDGE...

...and bring it back down to earth, where it has relevance to real people's lives and matters most. To make it accessible and applicable, enabling people to solve problems in practical ways and, in so doing, realise extraordinary possibilities.

THIS SORT OF THINKING, THIS CREATIVE FREEDOM TO DISCOVER AND DEVELOP UNIQUE IDEAS, ONLY COMES WHEN YOU HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THOSE AROUND YOU.

It doesn’t come from having to endlessly justify what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.

This is a place that sees the bigger picture, that puts trust in you and your ideas, and has the vision, resources and clarity of purpose to back bold thinking and create possibilities – for me, and for the students, business and society we serve.
